1/32 Revell/Monogram

You cannot make a classic Mopar in this series without doing "The King". Finally, this release has arrived and I am very happy with it overall.

Of course nothing is perfect in our hobby, but this model is pretty spot on. Depending on what race this car was in, depended on how it looked. Anyone who really knows the history of these old stock cars knows that they changed weekly. A lot depended on how badly the car was beat up the week prior! This model is based on a restored car that has had many accolades on accuracy.

The famous Petty blue shade is close enough for my eyes. Did you know this shade of blue changed quite often? Over the years it has been an honor to get to know know people who worked with this team and others from this era. The stories and photos they have shared with me are priceless. As usual, what you see in a book sometimes is not really the true story. These teams worked with what they had on hand and sometimes when paint was mixed it was nearly impossible to match it exactly from car to car.

This also applies to contingency stickers. Brands and where they were placed vary so greatly, you could almost never make a mistake modeling these cars. The bottom line is only your own personal taste will decide if this car is a good enough representation.

The body is done well enough and is the same model as the prior releases. The rear is a little high and the overall greenhouse seems a tad small, but nothing I will lose sleep over.

Since I am a "middle of the road" guy when it comes to scale detail, it is more than good enough for me.

At SPEED where this car belongs (IMHO) it looks even better.

Below are some tuning and part modifications I have been performing that gives these models the performance I like. Please note that these are MY personal techiniques and are NOT required for you to enjoy the models.

Being in this hobby long enough has told me to never take anything for granted. This is why I appreciate this model so much. We are quite fortunate to have a company making these great American classics for us. They cannot make every car that existed, but they sure have made enough to fill a large field at your next club or home event.

Well done Revell/Monogram!
