The 7 Deadly Sins and Carreras New Ferrari Enzo

By Swissracer ( Allan Wakefield )

I found them all awaiting me inside the Carrera style Pandora's Box - Evil incarnate waiting to snare the sinner......

"an Immorally expensive and frivolous rich mans toy in a troubled world?

WHO CARES ! when it is reproduced as a scale toy"...

PRIDE
Hey ! who wouldn't be proud to own these beauties...

As you will see there is very little wrong with this release from Carrera. Once they start racing these for real maybe we will see some liveries other than Street - OR - maybe it is 'makeover' time !

ENVY
Well I KNOW the green eyed monster is out there, especially Stateside!. Sorry, maybe my 2nd deadly sin should be changed to gloating.
OR.. It could be that I am envious that this driver can see the complete interior and I can't.

One of the few downsides of the car is the interior has a lot of detailing but it is hard to see and the full cockpit is welded to the body. Notice the rear view mirror at top center of the screen? Both versions have different seat colors and each driver has different hair and Tee shirt color.

GLUTTONY
Comes in the shape of the engine:

In the model it is extremely well detailed, fairly accurate but lacks some red - am I being too picky?

In the real thing gluttony comes from an overkill of raw power ( I heard not so reliable raw power but that is for other realms ) and a glut of engineering expertise.

Power 660 bhp / 492.4 kW @ 7800 rpm
BHP/Liter 110.0
Torque 657 Nm / 484.6 ft lbs @ 5500 rpm
Power to weight ratio 0.48 bhp/kg
Top Speed 217.5 mph / 350.0 km/h Ooh baby..yeah!
0-60 mph Acceleration 3.30 s !!!!

LUST

Sleek, balanced and arrogantly beautiful. Similar to my visions of a perfect woman in temperament and qualities? maybe. I had this on pre order from the moment I first a saw it was to be released

'Perception' - It's a personal thing to most and I have to say the shape of this car gets to me as strongly as it repels others.

As for the model, Carrera have caught the shape, feel and dimensions of this car perfectly, it still isn't as detailed as a Scalextric Mercedes CLK, BMW Mini or a Fly release but then maybe that adds to this marquee - stark exterior simplicity and attention to finish.

ANGER
There had to be some, though maybe 'Anger' is too strong a word and I am slipping in some poetic license in to fit my theme.

I am disappointed and annoyed that Carrera insist on all these resistors and capacitors. I still have no idea why, apart from at least one is a Legal requirement as a suppressor against radio interference. Removing all or some of these, however, appears to make no difference to performance. If anyone cares to enlighten me on why so many and why attach them to the can, I would appreciate it greatly.

Now this REALLY got me.. I love tinkering, the basic 'tune up' I do to ALL my cars is lubricate and shim the running gear.

Carrera have gone and done it all already !

Nice fitting brass bushes. Clean, straight axles. Smooth, quiet and well lubricated gearing. Shimmed axles at the front to reduce slop without limiting movement and again, well lubricated.

This runs out of the box just as sweet as if I had spent an hour tinkering! NOT FAIR!

( NOTE: The guide is the same and needs trimming for Scalextric 'classic' track and some older brands)

The chassis is a tight fit to the body and part of the bodywork is separately attached to it ( see the red panels ), which prevents easing the screws up for some body movement, but to be fair a lot of cars released and not just Carrera have this element and it isn't always a bad thing.

GREED
Well I had to have them both of course !
SLOTH
Time to 'go earn a crust', the children need cleaning and feeding and nudging off to school..............

NAH !

Just ONE more lap..........

Now.....Let's get technical........

The chassis is, of course, the new one. Boasting new Gearing in the now standard 9/27 ratio which leaves it slower in top end to most older Carrera Evolutions but with a lot more acceleration and braking ability in evidence.

Magnets are new standard also, which consists of a flatter 'front to back' profile front magnet and a vertically adjustable rear magnet sitting between the rear axle and the inline motor.

Wheels and tires on both mine are very true running and grip is normal Carrera quality IE: 'Good to Great'.

Without the magnets the car is a little light in the corners but they slide well as opposed to tipping / deslotting and there is plenty of space to add weight.

The inside of the body is very clean and tidy, the cockpit, engine and light units being thoroughly welded in place.

There are no rattling loose parts to increase any running noise.

Once removed, the inside detail can be properly seen. I think the lack of decals for the dashboard face can be forgiven as you can't see them anyway ( Is that me making excuses? )

Exterior detailing is crisp and clear, glued on parts are at a minimum being restricted to rear lights, head light covers    (though these are installed from inside securely) and wing mirrors. Instead Carrera opted for raised and Tampo highlighted parts as in this Ferrari label.

Wheels are accurately portrayed and the brake disks even have the calipers attached and in view.

So there we have it, a remarkable effort on a remarkable Ferrari with the control and driveability greatly enhanced by the new setup so it will compete against other manufacturers cars on a more even field.

All that remains is to show the slight modification to the box which enables the spare braids etc to stay IN the box when the lid is removed and incidentally allows a little room to carry other spares and a small tool or two.

The securing screw is now metal and the chassis hole machine tapped as opposed to self tapped.

 Enjoy !
