Revell Raceway!

Revell Raceway 202 is a two hundred and two foot 4 lane slot car track powered by a Zurich 30 amp, 0-15 volt variable power supply.  There is over 600 feet of 16 gauge wire used to supply power evenly around the circuit.   It has one 24 foot and one 25 foot straight-a-way.  The Monza Banked curves are set at an angle of about 57 degrees.   The track has dramatic changes in elevation and takes up 196 square feet of space in my garage.   There are off-camber turns and even a removable, adjustable jump.   Timing chores are handled by a Gateway Pentium I 166 MHz computer running Lap Timer 2000 software.   All lanes are the same length - calculated with math data using the arc length of 14" and 21" radius curves.

Track record (so far) is 13.675 sec by a Pro-Track Spider chassis w/ a lexan Ferrari 512S body, Slot-it 29,000 rpm motor, carbon fiber axles, and 1/24th scale Parma  "The Blade" guide.   That works out to an average of 14.77 feet per second.   Some stock off the shelf cars run 25 or 30 seconds per lap.   For example, a bone stock Scalextric Sport GT40 runs in the low 23 second range.

Each lane of this track has 98 straights, 45  14" radius curves, 2 chicanes, 2 cross-overs, 48  21" radius curves, and 6 Monza Banked curves.   At first it seemed a little overwhelming to race on, but like anything else, the more you try it - the easier it is.   It will take me years to finish all the bridging.  Trying to make the track seem like it's "floating" in space in certain places.   The sound system that fits under the track is a little different too.   Four 18" and eight 15" woofers just for low end.    As you can see, the whole thing is a work in progress.

It's taken me nearly 13 years to find all the track necessary to build this layout.   Special thanks to Steve Daro, 3D in Detroit, and Ebay for helping me locate all the pieces.   Rock and Roll!

This one is a simple figure 8 that can be hung on a wall or set at any angle from 0-90 degrees.   3 Slot-It bar magnets snap right in to a Scalextric Camaro or Mustang and you can race with the track straight up and down.   Portable, adjustable, and stands alone. Built it for a science project for my 10 yr old son to illustrate the power of magnets.  It's bizarre....Tough on the cars though!
