The latest Pioneer Mustangs just arrived and although they may appear to be just fresh paint, there is more to these Pony's than meets the eye.

First things first. If you are new to the hobby then check out our PIONEER REVIEW SECTION for more detailed information on these models. For the rest of you, it is worthy to note that these releases have a new style box art to them that really catches the eye. Nothing ground breaking for some of you, but it lets you know Pioneer is always trying to improve things.

These releases also have great history to them which will appeal to most any Trans-Am fan. Here is a link for you to enjoy. Seeing these cars in action is something I never get tired of.

Like prior releases there is a quick history to the model on the back as well as the VDC (Vehicle Data Card) inside.

Both of these models are very eye appealing and I cannot pick a favorite. Paint work here is about as good as it gets in our hobby and a clean clear coat seals it all well enough.

Details like different driver poses and paint just add to the scale appeal of these models.

THE CHANGES

The first thing racers will want to do is check the parts bag under the case. Inside you will find the new 13 tooth pinion gear. I am very impressed by this move and I will bet most of you will be too. You just do not see this sort of thing everyday in our hobby.

So now you can do a gear change for those longer, larger tracks without having to buy a gear.

I test fitted it and it works just fine.

I could see the difference on my longer oval right away.

The second change is not as easy to notice. I was informed that the inner rib of the wheels has been profiled better to reduce "cupping" of the tires.

From the looks of things it just allows the tires to fit better and reduces the amount of truing required.

Bottom Line

The main thing I am seeing from these models is that Pioneer does listen to racers and they make changes/additions when they can. Pioneer models cost only a few dollars more than other brands, but I feel you get your money's worth. Spare tires, mirrors, and now a new gear pretty much makes up my mind. What about you?

Of course having more options for your Trans-Am series is always a good thing and either one of these models should compliment your current collection perfectly.
