1/32nd Scale - Part# 50584

The latest Corvette by NINCO has arrived. The model itself has been around quite awhile in our hobby, but a new Speed Record theme has it coming back for more.

This effort by NINCO is a Vette with some deep history. Rather than reprint it here, READ THIS LINK to learn about the evolution of this famous car. Certainly a unique model to say the least and one that Corvette enthusiasts will likely appreciate.

However, you can see from prototype photos (even the NINCO Newsletter) that the car is not perfect. There are missing decals, brake ducts and the shiny chrome finish. Does this bother you? If you were looking for an accurate representation of this famous car then it likely will.

If you are not that critical then this rendition will suit you just fine. What markings and paint that are present are nicely done but I did see a few very small areas of bleed through on the right front fender. Nothing alarming, but I must mention it.

Other than the Tailfin behind the driver's head, the rest of this model is unchanged from the original mold we saw in 2005. Different chrome parts from the original street version appear here as well.

Turning the model over we see that this version is outfitted with the SPEEDER motor. I had thought we would see the new Thruster motor as was found in the last release of this car, but it has went back to the motor it started with. I suppose this makes sense given they are modeling a speed record car.

After removing the 2 screws that mount the body to the chassis we see nothing has changed much from prior versions. The new quick disconnects for the motor are here which makes a motor swap a little easier if you choose to do so.

The model functioned as intended out of the box as it should. The Speeder motor is more than enough for this model in my opinion and for my personal tastes it is actually too much. I like my classics to have a different feel to them. Yet, there are those of you who like more power so I cannot fault NINCO in this case.

And from my view this car is more for the collector than people like me who will race them. So for them it does not matter what motor it is equipped with. This is likely why I did not bother comparing it to any other brands or even some older models in the NINCO classic line. For example, my latest Corvette prior to this has the Thruster motor. It simply will not compete on the long straights with this model.

The price tag for this model is steep with an MSRP of $79.99. You will find it for a few dollars less here and there from your favorite dealer so it certainly pays to shop around. Yet, this high price is another reason why this reviewer feels it is simply for the collector. But as we like to say, only you can decide if this model is worth the premium price.

If you are a collector of the NINCO classic line or just a Corvette fan in general, this release is likely one you have been waiting for. It is a nice looking model that has a very interesting history.
