Magnets

Not all enthusiasts use magnets in their racing, but for those that do this section is for you. I have tried to list the most popular choices available today, however if you have a favorite magnet that I have missed, please feel free to contact me and we will update the section as soon as possible.

Slot-it Bar Magnet (Standard)

Our old stand-by. This magnet when it first appeared helped a great deal in increasing the down-force of your Scalextric NASCARS along with other releases. Strong enough for most anyone, it can really improve your lap times and keep your model planted firmly in the slot.

Slot-it Bar Magnet (Bowtie or "C")

Another great magnet that is virtually identical to the standard bar magnet, except that the ends of the magnet is thicker than the center. This design is supposed create more magnetic traction when the car begins to spin, allowing the thicker, stronger areas of the magnet to take hold once it floats over the rail. Depending on the placement of it also changes the amount of drag in the center where most times it isn't needed and only decreases straight-line speed.

Professor Motor "Gold Bar"

This magnet is identical in size and shape to other bar magnets such as the stock Scalextric magnet and Slot-it, although its claim to fame is that it is even stronger. I don't have the test equipment to prove this, rather I take the good Professor at his word that it is 25% stronger. I have used them in my NASCARS and needless to say they are quite strong and provide plenty of down-force. Nice upgrades for inline NASCARS to compete with the newer sidewinder Taurus.

Tweaker

This magnet is one that is easily placed in tighter spaces, and to aid the current magnet with traction. I have found many times it is the ideal magnet for pinning the front end down just enough without causing excess magnetic drag. Sometimes your car might need just a little more down-force, and this magnet usually accomplishes this. It has been a long-time favorite of mine here for NASCAR and FLY Classic tuning, so if your looking to "Tweak" your cars a little more...look no further.

Radio Shack Rare Earth Magnets

Do not let these little magnets fool you. They provide excellent magnetic down-force and can be virtually placed anywhere. Another magnet perfect for tight spaces and to add just a little more to your existing magnet configuration. If your local store doesn't have any in stock, they will usually order them for you. I always seem to keep one or two packages laying on the bench just in case.

After-Market Extras

To be honest there are other sources of magnets that are virtually identical to other "name brand" magnets and most times at half the cost or less. Enthusiasts have been using them for quite some time, but it seems not much attention has been paid to them. Well if your like me and try to save as many slot-pennies as possible for that next must have new release, this is one good place to start. Places like Slotcarplace and Slot Car World carries a wide range of them and are so inexpensive you might as well grab a few to experiment with on your next order.
