How To Build A
PORTABLE HO LAYOUT
IN ONE AFTERNOON!!

by Larry Lype

Here is the tools and supplies you need for this project;
1. 1 36 inch by 80 inch Interior Door, un-drilled (Approx $25.00)
2. Any brand HO Slot Car Set ($39.00 and up)
3. 1 quart Green paint, and brush or roller (Approx $8.00)
4. 1 tube Adhesive Caulk & caulk gun (Caulk $2.00, Caulk Gun $4.00)
5. 1 Piece sandpaper
6. A wet rag, for cleanup

It really is easy, You CAN DO IT!

Ok gang, prop the door on a stable surface and apply the paint.
Follow the directions on the can.

Here is the paint I used, its "Kid Safe", and available at
Wal-Mart, and most Home Centers.

Here is the Caulk I used, its available at
Wal-Mart, and most Home Centers, also.

Here is the set we used, Any brand set will work. And, yes
a 4 lane layout will fit on the 36X80 door also!

We're going to build a 2 lane layout today.

We have decided on a layout, now put the layout together
and make pencil marks on the inside and outside of the track
in several places around the track.

Ok gang, now there is the size dab of caulk, its about the
size of a quarter. Put it in the center of where the track
(inside/outside) will sit, in the middle (long ways) of the piece.
After caulking the track down, let the caulk dry before moving the
track. The drying time will be stated on the tube. The reason I
recommend caulk for fastening the track to the door is, if you
ever decide to change the layout, just take a steak knife and cut
the caulk!

Were almost ready to race! Take a moment and clean the rails,
and clean the track, as per the instructions you got with your
set. OK, its SHOWTIME!!! Now, you will have hours of enjoyment
with your new layout! I know people who have take layouts in
their motor homes to races and car shows! I hope you have enjoyed
this "How To", and will build one soon! You now have successfully
"built" your new portable layout! And storage is easy, put it
under the bed, hang it from the garage ceiling, store it almost
anywhere! See, it was easy, wasn't it! Have Fun!!
