Building Bottomland Speedway

Before we begin taping, I drilled the holes and then used a milling bit in my Dremel to make the wire indent.

Finally all taped. We used VentureTape Masterfoil Plus 1.5 mil thickness (red inner ring).

I like working with the heavier tape and besides, I had some left to work with, plus our friend Jim Troye donated 2 rolls as well. Thanks Jim!

We used our stand by 1 1/2 screen cap found at Lowe's for the walls on each end.

We placed them in the outer groove and then a bead of hot glue secures it.

We simply cut the 1 x 8's for the side frame and screwed in place.

Almost there, just have to wire up our drivers stations.

Getting ready to make the trip. I shrink wrapped the entire layout to protect it.

We have some showers in the forecast, so this way we can move it into his trailer with no worries even with a few sprinkles.

It also helps protect the edges and such, so I am glad I did it.

Ok all loaded. Bringing all my tools in case I need something, which I most likely will.

The smaller 4 x 4 section fit perfectly under the larger section. I just cut a 2 x 4 board to fit inside the track bed for support.

Finally all set up! It took a lot of sweat to carry these inside, but Donna (Nicks wife) did a great job.

We used common broom/mop holders for the controllers. You can find them just about anywhere and they work great.

The final touch is the curtain that the General made by hand. We painted this track as a Dale Sr./Dale Jr. tribute and this was perfect.

Dimensions are 4 x 12 foot. More than enough for a great layout.

We had a great time making this layout, and the reaction we got from Nick is one I will never forget.

We enjoyed racing on it all weekend too. Thanks Nick and Donna for hosting yet another great race event!
