Looking back the past 10 years we have seen many great cars and series of cars in our hobby. Some of them had more of an impact than others and helped to shape our hobby to where it is today. We wanted to share with all of you 10 cars/series of cars that made the biggest impressions to us and feel they deserve a little extra recognition.

Shawn Smith from Slot Car Garage and myself have came up with our personal Top Ten list.

They are not in numerical order. In other words, there isn't a clear #1. All of them are winners!

Shawn's Picks

FLY Dodge Viper (First Generation)

In my opinion; the car responsible for making the other manufacturers step up both in detail and performance. The first generation Vipers were perhaps the best looking Ready To-Run at the time and ran very well with a good speed and down force combination.

Scalextric Trans Am Series

One of the most popular line of cars from Scalextric and YEARS after their release fans are still asking if Scalextric plans to make any additions to the series. Multiple magnet positions, great performance and good looks! A sure winner!

The Hard-Body Roller Chassis

The brass pan RTR chassis, both the older Pro-Track and now, thankfully, the new H&R still breathe life in to 'model car racing'. Nothing more fun that slamming doors and timing your passes on tighter plastic home set tracks with large 1/24 model-bodied cars!

Anything Slot It

My vote for King of the 'value for the dollar' award - Set-screw parts, adjustability, good motors, the same, or even better, looks of higher priced competitors and Slot It cars can out perform most competitors too. Add to their Ready-To-Run line with the vast line up of after-market parts, RTR HRS chassis, etc. and Slot It is in a league of their own.

Vanquish MG

Ah we loved them and we hated them... but Vanquish made some very hot cars in models that others have never dared to do. Yes we had arguments over 'scale accuracy' and we've read many posts about their 'questionable' attempt at a differential rear end yet even so I've heard from countless racers who still love these cars and are still buying them when they can find them.

NINCO Super GT Series

Not being chosen for being fast and fun to drive although I do think they have become the best of the NINCO breed. Instead I pick the NINCO GT cars simply because of what NINCO did with them, spawning nationwide events that lead to a global competition... Something no other manufacturer has done since I've been back in to slotting and in 2007 NINCO plans to do it again!

Carrera Classic Stock Cars

These cars were LONG overdue from a 'desired' frame of mind and when Carrera first released them we jumped at the chance to run them both at home and the local commercial raceways. So many repaints have been created with these cars and even with the hundreds of new cars released since I find we continue to slap these on the track on race nights. Good, durable, inexpensive, door bangin' fun!

The 'Kit-Cars'

Kit cars are BACK!! Most of the major players have gone the way of the kit car and even a few lesser known have give them a shot. FLY, SCX, Spirit and others offer 'near completed kits with only minor assembly needed, companies like Slot It, BRM and others offer kits with fantastically finished bodies needing all of the running gear assembled and companies like NINCO have their Pro-Driver kits that give you everything you need to build a racer from the ground up and even provide you with additional parts to allow for visual and performance customization.

Scalextric Indy Dallara

What was not to love when Scalextric released the IRL line of cars? Great looking and great performing models with both replicated and fantasy liveries that allowed even the most budget-minded racers to have something to compete with. The 'fake livery' and white-bodied IRL would set you back $20.00 or less and they could run circles around cars costing two and three times as much.

FLY Classics

Next to the FLY Viper the 'Classic' line of FLY cars is the reason everyone else had to play 'catch up'! Yes many Classics have required their fair share of 'tweaking and tuning' yet once sorted out these cars have provided countless hours of fun for thousands of racers and like so many other cars on my list I find myself going back to them time and time again when I just want something 'great' to drive.

Harry's Picks

Carrera Classic NASCARS Series.

Just hearing about this release had me in stitches. FINALLY classic NASCAR returns to 1/32nd scale!! When they arrived they were so much fun that I collected them all. They are still in our regular racing today and we look forward to more.

Scalextric Trans Am Series

Are you kidding me? Classic Ford versus Chevy action that gave us not only great looking cars, but ones that really performed. Plus it finally brought yet another American Series that long deserved to be in our hobby. Keep them coming Scalextric!

Fly Classics Series

Love them or hate them, Fly Car Model upped the ante in scale detail 10 years ago and forced all the rest to follow. Yes, the Viper was first but the Classics were tops for me. Just about every racer I know has at least one and it seems we never tire of them. Still today they end up being a series we race at every event we attend.

Scalextric Modern NASCARS

NASCAR fan or not, the second series of cars were a massive success. Back when they were released, they were THE hot tickets. I owned every one I could get my hands on and still today are some of may favorite cars. The hours my family and friends spent with them are countless.

NINCO Classics

Non-Magnet classics that brought out the true driver in you, like it or not! With many other series heading towards over-powered magnet missiles, the classics still offer the taste of doing it old school. Oh did I mention the NC-1 motor? Yeah...these little classics still rock.

The Slot.it Series

The Porsches, Lancias, Mercedes, and the latest McLaren to name a few. Slot.it set benchmarks in scale detail complete with some of the highest quality we can get for running gear...all for a fair price.

Artin Stockers

Budget cars that have been very popular for all ages. From simple re-paints to full on scratch-building, this car deserves the nod. The chassis itself has found to be one of the best & inexpensive platforms for scratch-builders everywhere.

Spirit LMP

Killer fast cars that many racers felt out did Fly's efforts. Looking at all the homes and clubs that have series with them makes it a winner. Plus, it brought a new company into our hobby who is still with us today creating more great cars.

Monogram Cobra Daytona Coupe

Not everyone liked how they ran...but they were drop dead gorgeous and more importantly it marked the return of Monogram and then Revell to our hobby. Yeah, that impacted us big time.

SCX NASCARS

Sure, they are brand new but what an impact they have had. Dale Sr. finally represented in our hobby and they also put a decent motor in them. Looks great...runs great! The first SCX car that I really feel all slotters should have.

Did we forget one? Don't agree with our choices?
